While Mozart is perhaps best known for his operas, symphonies, masses and concertos, a considerable part of his compositions were for the salon.
As part of Brighton's contribution to the Mozart 2006 tribute, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth, Brighton College's Autograph series of concerts gave us some splendid chamber music from this genius's pen.
Dimension Piano Trio gave us pieces ranging from the simple Piano Piece in F, written when he was just six years old, to the Piano Trio in G Major from his more mature years.
This colourful trio all studied together at the Yehudi Menuhin school and often add guests to make quartets or quintets.
Pianist Richard Hyung-Ki Joo plays with a smile on his face and in an easy, laidback style, while violinist Rafal Zambrzycki-Payne is slightly more formal. And with Thomas Carroll on cello, Mozart's salon music was given a memorable outing.
