Dan Morath stepped up to kick the late penalty which should keep Haywards Heath safe in London One.

But, in true Heath style, they managed to make it exciting.

Heath won 25-24 at home to Bishop's Stortford, meaning they will stay up unless they lose every game from here on in and Old Albanians win all theirs.

One point from their last three games will make Heath absolutely sure.

Coach Ian Davies: "I'll be able to sleep at night then."

Heath were 12-0 up at half-time after James Grey scored with his first touch and Jamie Redmayne got over after great work by Will Harris.

Owen Ashton added a conversion.

Morath and Lee 'Otuhouma added second-half scores but Stortford kept coming back and led 24-22 going into injury time before Morath slotted his 35-yard goal.

Davies added: "It was a big pressure kick and the first one he had taken all afternoon so fair play to the fella.

"There was a feeling of relief afterwards, tinged with disappointment that we didn't win more convincingly.

"But it was good to see some smiles as they came off the field."

Worthing's youngsters offered the real bonus from a routine 22-8 home win over Barnes.

Scrum half Danny Peach and hooker Pete Cleveland both started.

And Matt Farnes produced 20 lively minutes after being introduced into the back line.

Worthing took command in the second half as a big Barnes team tired.

Ryan Storer, Charlie McGowan and Duncan Taylor scored tries.

Worthing are not going up or down in the league this term but face a Sussex Trophy semi-final on Saturday. Skipper Jody Levett said: "The game was a bit flat. We're looking forward to the cup tie to try and get some momentum back."

Lewes lost 30-24 at home to Sevenoaks in London Two South having been a couple of points up with five minutes to go. Neil Rumble scored a try and also produced the off-load for Dave Tyrrell to get over.

Mike Rust added a nice finish wide out.

Winger Lee Evans scored a hat-trick of tries as he continues his fine debut season at Chichester.

Evans previously played for his local Uckfield club and had a spell at Lewes.

He is now captaining Chichester University and starring on the wing for Chi, who won 17-7 at Dartfordians in London Three South East.

Chi skipper Ben Polhill said: "It was a gritty all-round team performance and Lee finished his chances well."

Andy Webb added a conversion.

Ian Broughton scored a spectacular chip-and-chase try from halfway to give Brighton their 20-17 home win over Gravesend.

Brighton achieved parity up front and gave their backs a chance to shine, resulting in a great winning score two minutes from time.

James Williams and Ian Broughton also scored tries and James Wall slotted a conversion and a penalty.

A late penalty sent Bognor to a 22-20 defeat in a scrappy encounter at Lordswood.

Paul Mitchell and Tony Johnson scored tries with Rob Parry adding a conversion and two penalties.

But captain Nigel Mitchell admitted: "It was very scrappy. That's the way they play at home and it seems to suit them."

Hove kept promotion hopes flickering with a 13-5 home win against Horsham.

Victory was secured by a penalty try which Horsham felt was preceded by a knock-on as Alex Pell-Stevens tried to get to the line.

Adam Phillips converted for Hove to go with two penalties. Richard Tredgett scored Horsham's try.

East Grinstead lost 50-0 at home to Charlton Park and the bottom three are now all Sussex clubs after Eastbourne went down 20-7 at Betteshanger.

Matt Thompson picked up at a scrum and Nathan Ring converted to put Eastbourne 7-0 up. They were convinced Tom Buttle got hands under the ball when Betteshanger replied to level the scores at 7-7 by half-time.
