As a long time resident of Hove, I watched with amazement the bickering about the West Pier before - as if in desperation - it fell into the sea and was destroyed.
Now I see the same bickering regarding the complex to replace the existing King Alfred buildings, which, once enjoyed by so many people, have become an eyesore.
We have the opportunity to replace them with a prestigious if unusual structure by a world-famous architect which would bring Hove into the 21st Century but it is being resisted by those who wish the city to remain in a time warp.
As a ratepayer who still visits the King Alfred, I ask Brighton and Hove City Council to ratify this outstanding edifice and allow building to start.
I find it astonishing some residents of Hove still cannot conceive that change is inevitable but want to become custodians of this part of the seafront without considering the public who might like to be carried along with such a change, especially if it is to their advantage.
