Jazz singer Alyson Green's self-financed album has already won over some influential people, with Clive Davies (The Times), Sarah Ward (Jazz FM) and Claire Martin (BBC Radio 3) describing it with words like "skilled, imaginative and passionate".

Coming from a musical background (her dad is a professional drummer, her grandmother a saxophonist who played with the BBC Radio Big Band), the Brighton-based singer established her music career performing with the Herb Miller Band (Glenn's brother), before taking a break to raise a family.

She returned with new own quartet and debut album, Secret. Plenty of radio airplay led to a distribution deal and some high-profile gigs, including a sell-out at London's 606 Jazz Club.

Her repertoire includes lesser-known gems like Horace Silver's Love Vibrations, as well as reworkings of some standards such as Cole Porter's What Is This Thing Called Love? and reworkings of the likes of Maroon 5.

She has also been invited to play Soho's Pizza Express Jazz Club on Tuesday (0207 4398722).

Starts 8pm, tickets cost £5. Call 01273 452300.
