It's Rambert's 80th birthday and celebrated choreographer Merce Cunningham has given the company the honour of premiering his new work.

Pond Way is atmospheric, sensual and, according to Merce, reminiscent of skimming stones over a pond, which he loved to do as a child. Music is by Brian Eno, and pop artist Roy Lichtenstein provides the backdrop.

Rambert is one of the few companies in the world that Cunningham allows to perform his work, so these performances are a rare opportunity for UK dance fans.

Now aged 86, Cunningham is a modern master in the field of dance.

He was a soloist in Martha Graham's company for several years, then forged a long professional and personal collaboration with composer John Cage. The Merce Cunningham Dance Company was formed in 1953.

This piece is just one of the programme highlights. Physics and dance join forces in Constant Speed, a celebration of Albert Einstein's scientific theories, which sees 19 dancers whizz around the stage to the sparkling waltzes of Franz Lehar.

Antony Tudor's Judgement Of Paris is set to Kurt Weill's Threepenny Opera, and Divine Influence, by Martin Joyce, is passionate and funny.

Starts 7.45pm, plus Thurs mat 2pm. Tickets £11-£22.50. Call 08700 606650.
