Worthing Thunder have revealed the hotshot mentality that put them on title course.

Thunder will lift the EBL regular season crown for the first time if they win at home to Kings Lynn tonight (8pm) and at City of Sheffield next Saturday.

They were left on the brink of glory by a defeat for Reading at London United and by their own amazing shooting from outside the arc.

Barkers (Tarring) Thunder went 13-for-17 from three-point land in the second half at home to Coventry last week, stretching a 44-43 half-time lead into a 28-point advantage at one stage. They eventually took the contest 110-94.

Assistant coach Alan Sweetman-Hicks said: "We've always thought we had lots of three-point shooters but we've never seen them perform like that all at once.

"We were three-for-20 at half-time but our philosophy was to keep shooting them and it would click. Our inside game is pretty good, which helps."

"It was great to see all the starting five come to play.

"We had a spell after Christmas when we relied on Pat Bates but Jon Woods has been probably our best player in the last few games. Everybody is contributing."

The 21 points which took Thunder from 48 to 69 were scored from seven successful threes from seven attempts.

The run was only broken when an attempt from Steve Gayle rolled around the rim twice and somehow stayed out.

Gayle and Alfredo Ott were both four-of-five from three-point range in the second half while Steve Vear was four-for-four and Woods one-for-three.

Gayle and Ott had gone a combined none-for-ten in the first half while Vear made three of his seven attempts in the opening 20 minutes.

Woods finished with 22 points, on ten-for-15 field goal shooting, and 21 rebounds.
