ITV news presenter Marcella Whittingdale has been lined up to host the launch of the 2006/2007 Sussex Business Awards at The Royal Pavilion.

People who attend the free event will hear inspirational stories from some of the companies and individuals who scooped a trophy at last year's awards.

Sussex businessman and chairman of the judges Malcolm Diamond, who is heading the judging panel for the fourth year running, is urging people to enter.

"I can't think of any reasons not to enter a business for one of these awards," he said.

"Entering alone encourages companies to take a good look at all aspects of their business and gives them a unique opportunity to pitch their successes to business leaders across the county.

"The profile of the awards in and beyond Sussex is rising every year, which is one of the many reasons to enter in 2006/07.

"Companies should not overestimate the value of the media coverage if they are short-listed by the judges.

"Whatever the business, the range of categories on offer this year means there will be an award that fits."

Previous winners taking part include Jacky Misson, managing director of Brighton-based Nido Marketing, who was named Entrepreneur of the Year 2005/06.

She said: "Entering Sussex Business Awards has proved to be a fantastic move for us.

"It has raised our profile in the local business community and we have had lots of new business enquiries as a direct result. It was also a great boost to our company morale and the trophy itself has pride of place in our office."

Also taking part is Steve Greenhalgh, managing director of the Sussex Cake manufacturers, Kate's Cakes, which won the Company Of The Year Award in 2005/06.

He said: "Winning this regional award impressed our customers, staff and suppliers and has been a really positive talking point locally which is important as we work closely with the local community.

"It's been great to receive such public recognition of our achievements from the Sussex business community."

Peter Tyler, managing director of Neilson Active Holidays, winner of the Leisure and Tourism Award 2005/06, will also reveal how it feels to win a prestigious Sussex Business Award and about growing a successful business in Sussex.

The event will provide potential entrants with the opportunity to meet sponsors and find out what they are looking for in a winning company.

There will also be a free tour of the Pavilion during the event which is taking place on Wednesday, May 10.

Tickets are free but places are limited. To book visit www.sussex-business-awards.co.uk or call the awards office on 01273 207155.
