In response to Andy Wesson's comments re roadworks in Patcham (Letters, March 25), I am baffled.

What is to be gained from what is being done?

Less Parking space means more parking problems and congestion. People drive around like headless chickens, waiting for a space to become vacant rather than concentrating on driving properly.

Parking provision is, or should be, restricted to a 60-minute stay so it is obviously meant for shopping parking.

Fewer parking spaces means more congestion and you need to have eyes in the back of your head now as cars come from all directions and angles to park or drive away.

The junction layout now slows down traffic, which is great.

However, now the drivers of single-decker buses have to concentrate on turning buses into the tight Ladies Mile Road junction, has anyone considered that the back end of a bus has to swing inwards due to the overhang from its rear wheels?

I bet it won't be long before correctly parked cars get a ding from one or another large vehicle.

I, for one, have started to go elsewhere to buy supplies, which is a pity because the local businesses need our support to survive and this project is not helping any of them. These shops are part of our community.

This is a shopping area, after all. Don't most of the people parking there want something from the shops?
