The Argus has scored a double hat-trick of industry commendations.

The team has picked up six accolades at the Newspaper Society Awards.

It is the paper's second lot of prizes in less than a week.

Sarah Harvey was named promotions executive of the year. Judges praised her entry for "gaining instant attention" in a "really effective way, adding an element of fun".

The Argus won the best point of sale promotion for its comedy seagulls campaign. Readers were asked to track down model seagulls distributed round the city to receive free tickets for the Paramount Brighton Comedy Festival in October. Darren Cool was highly commended in the young photographer of the year category.

The paper was also highly commended for best event organised by a publisher in a daily or Sunday paper for its Christmas with The Argus promotion, which had a grotto in Churchill Square, a Santa bus and a countdown prize-giveaway.

There was another highly commended for the best in-paper reader offer in a daily or Sunday paper for the Dine for £5 series.

The Argus was shortlisted in the best outdoor campaign category for Christmas with The Argus.

Stephen Lowe, head of sales and marketing, said: "I am very pleased for Sarah Harvey because she only works three days a week and she was pregnant for six months of this year. To win promotions executive is fantastic."

Picture editor Richard Taylor said: "Darren has done incredibly well, especially considering at that point he had only been a junior for six months."

Darren said: "Even to get nominated was pretty amazing considering I'd only been doing it since June last year."

Last week The Argus walked off with best campaign, trainee journalist of the year and best brand promotion at the annual awards held by its own parent company Newsquest.
