If, as Evelyn Lewes states (Letters, March 11), painting double yellow lines in the Clyde Road area has indeed made it easier and safer to cross, this must be an improvement.

Your other correspondents (March 2) seemed to believe the lines would make things worse for pedestrians, but until there is evidence of this, we remain sceptical.

As for double parking, given that this is illegal anyway, Brighton and Hove City Council can hardly be blamed if it occurs.
