Regarding bird flu vaccination and feeding wild birds in the light of the discovery of the disease on mainland Britain, here are some important points.
Whatever the rights, wrongs and complications of bird flu vaccination, the reason 700,000 young ducks and/or geese were vaccinated in France was to protect the cruel and immoral pate de foie gras industry - production of pate de foie gras is banned here but, sadly, its importation is not.
Regarding feeding wild birds, a panel of experts on a recent BBC radio programme advised we should continue to feed, thus keeping wild birds healthy and strong and more resistant to the virus.
Also, it is important to keep a sense of proportion.
After all, 900 million factory-farmed birds are "processed" all over Britain and their faeces and dead are ground up and spread on fields as "fertiliser" where many species of birds land to feed.
Surely this is a much more likely way of spreading bird flu and any other potential diseases?
So let us not victimise wild birds or those who care for them.
