How I agree with the RSPCA's Kirsty Hampton who said Damon Blandford should have been banned from keeping all animals for life (The Argus, March 29). Having been found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to a German Shepherd by not feeding it adequately and denying it veterinary attention, he was only banned from keeping dogs for ten years.
We see too many cases like this does anyone really think a man such as this will ever change his feelings for animal life?
Nigel Weller, defending Blandford, said the dog drank bleach from the toilet and it was this which caused its thinness.
Obviously, it was denied water and drank toilet water in desperation does anyone know a dog which prefers drinking water with bleach in it? The sad fact is, had this dog survived and been rehomed, such muscle damage does not always recover, leaving it weak in limb for the rest of its life.
This poor dog was only half its proper weight.
Courts should listen more to the RSPCA and be guided by their views when a banning time for keeping pets is set.
If the RSPCA don't know what is best for animals, who does? Remember, this poor dog was found dead by passers-by on Peacehaven Heights and it died of malnutrition.
