MP David Lepper Lepper has called on Lewes District Council to be "reasonable" and not put any more obstacles in the way of Albion's new stadium at Falmer.

He spoke following news that planning permission for the stadium had been quashed after Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott admitted making a blunder in his letter of approval.

Mr Lepper, MP for Brighton Pavilion, said: "Let's sort it out and let the Albion get on with the job."

He said the mistake was regrettable but was on a technicality which did not alter the "correctness" of the decision announced by Mr Prescott last October.

The MP said he would make his views known to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.

Mr Lepper said: "I am sure all reasonable people will want to get around the table and sort this out quickly without the need for yet another lengthy and costly public inquiry.

"Whether the council will be reasonable or see this as a way to put further obstacles in the way of a plan which will bring real benefits to residents in its area as well as in Brighton and Hove and the rest of the region is anybody's guess.

"I hope this time the council will be reasonable.

"The team and supporters, along with the hundreds of people of all ages who can be helped by Albion's community programme, deserve to know where they stand."
