To take a Chekhov classic and transport it from Russia to colonial Trinidad in 1941 is very brave, but it works.
Mustapha Matura's adaptation provides a thought-provoking drama that grips you until the end.
The sisters Alma, Helen and Audrey are well played by Brigid Zengeni, Nicola Alexis and Lorraine Burroughs. They live a privileged life in Port of Spain but dream of returning home to their adopted country, England and the spires of Cambridge.
Their ambitions crumble as World War II escalates and you soon get involved in the dramatic events that overtake their lives.
The set and lighting are excellent and the final heavy rain storm is very realistic.
