I regret that you appear to have fallen into the common trap of equating the application of law with the human concept of justice.

While it is often said that the middle classes do best from our legal system (the very rich or famous being outside the common law), it is clear that a homeless man now has a reasonably comfortable bed, and three (very) square meals a day.

As to the policeman, we can all be happy that Sussex Police "would now consider whether the officer should face disciplinary action". That's all right then.
