It's my dream come true. Proper bluegrass country mixed with Sixties girl pop. Never did I dare dream such a heavenly combination could actually exist but thankfully I have been shown otherwise by Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins.

The former child actress and singer in American alternative rock quartet Rilo Kiley is now making waves with her new solo project.

If this gig was anything to go by she may soon be credited with single-handedly changing the face and reputation of country music in the UK.

The diminuitive, flame-haired Lewis and the identical, lofty Watsons instantly shushed a chattering audience when they entered from the back of the room, weaving through the crowd to the stage holding tiny candles and singing a three-part harmony with only three words - "run devil run".

Once on stage, sweet gospel slid effortlessly into rocking country and I knew it was going to be a good night.

The band played a range of numbers from Lewis's debut album, Rabbit Fur Coat, with some fantastic, show-stopping extras such as their brilliant new song Jack Killed Mom.

Lewis's voice rang out pure and clear, backed by the twins' pitch-perfect doo-wop harmonies and synchronised movements, which included additional percussion playing in the form of claves, tambourines and even coin-clicking.

Lewis's boyfriend and solo artist in his own right, Jonathan Rice, on guitar plus a trio of embroided-shirt-wearing young men completed the picture with foot-stomping riffs and the plaintive twang of the pedal steel.

Country music lives again. Praise be for this Easter's rebirth.
