With reference to the letter, (April 14), headed "save our suburbs, while I was pleased the writer was concerned about the area of Hangleton, I was disappointed no name and address was given, so I am unable to address the person directly.

I would like to say that people living in Hangleton and Knoll ward take a great pride in their part of the city and many organisations exist in order to help them take an active part in keeping it as a nice place to live.

The Knoll Community Associaton meets at St Richard's Community Centre in Godwin Road, with a sub committee who look after the Knoll recreation ground.

The Guinness Trust estate of Laburnum and Moyne has its own association, while at the Hangleton Community Centre there is the Hangleton Community Association.

At all of these places, regular meetings are held to discuss problems and organise events. At the next level the Community Action Group meets regularly at the St Richard's Centre, where people can meet face to face with representatives from the local police, housing, transport and so on, to air their concerns.

The group which has an overall concern for the whole area is the Hangleton and Knoll Project with its office in the church hall of St Helens in Hangleton Way.

They are always looking out for trustees to assist in the running of the project and would be pleased to hear from interested local people.
