Tim "my skills are psyche" Westwood is one of the most influential figures in hip-hop in Europe and seen as a pioneer of the UK scene.

Despite the appalling Pimp My Ride UK, he is respected as a presenter, as well as a DJ and promoter.

Starting out on pirate radio and as one of the co-owners of Kiss FM during the station's pirate years, he went on to present the Rap Show on Capital FM for seven years before joining Radio 1 in December 1994, going on to become one of the most recognised urban DJs of the decade.

Approaching his 40th birthday, the career of the bishop's son is showing no signs of halting.

Westwood On Radio One is the top ranked hip-hop show in the UK. Cult show Pimp My Ride UK was the most successful MTV UK production of all time and the second highest rated show in the history of MTV Europe.

He has sold more than 1.7 million albums to date with the biggest selling urban compilation in history and DJs in the clubs to more than 350,000 people a year.

He has been nominated for the title of "music broadcaster of the year" by the Sony Radio Academy.

The awards are the UK's most prestigious radio accolade and take place on May 8, the same day as his new album, Ride With The Big Dawg, is released.

As the man himself has said: "If hip-hop was a lion, others take you to the zoo to experience it. Westwood takes you to the jungle."
