A Sudanese rapper and a "ramshackle collection of cowboys" are among acts appearing in a world music celebration.

One World is organised and promoted by the University of Brighton Students' Union, which, thanks to sponsorship, will be able to donate all the money from ticket sales to charities The Rockinghorse Appeal and Connected Lakes Initiative, Africa.

Brighton good-timers Los Albertos are joint headliners. With their inimitable foot-stompin', brass-blaring, high energy blend of ska, punk, funk, dub and original beats, they regularly sell-out venues in Brighton.

Joining them at the top of the bill are carnival favourites Barulho, a 35-strong Brighton collective, who play a fusion of funky Brazilian, African and bhangra beats.

Sudanese rap artist Emmanuel Jal (pictured) and his soul singer partner Ayak also appear. Once caught up in the Sudanese conflict as a child soldier, he is the latest rap sensation to come from Africa's growing hip hop scene. He performed at Live 8 Africa Calling and is part of the African Soul Rebels UK Tour.

Completing the line-up are country alternative rock rabble Boy Who Cried Wolf. This new project features frontman Wayne Murray (The Honeymoon) and Morcheeba's drummer Martin Carling, alongside Henrick the Dane on bass and Paul Rawson kicking up dust on dobro, mandolin and electric guitar.

The band harbour ambitions to play in Tennessee to an audience of drunken cowboys and gin-soaked cowgirls. For now they are earning their trade and making their debut playing in deepest southern England.

Starts 7.30pm. Tickets £10 in adv, £12 on the door, £8 NUS. Call 01273 642879.
