I am researching my husband's family tree and know his great grandfather, Thomas Eager, married Esther Sayers, who was born in Twineham, Sussex, in 1847.
She was the daughter of George Sayers, born about 1818 in Cowfold, Sussex, and his father was Samuel Sayers, born about 1780 in Shermanbury in Sussex.
I would like to know if this family have any connection with the family of Tom Sayers, the famous bare-knuckle fighter.
Tom's father was William Sayers, born about 1793, and his father was James Sayers, born about 1770.
Could any of your readers tell me whether or not James and Samuel were brothers? I have been unable to get back any further in the family trees and would be fascinated to know.
