In some alternative universe where Toy Story 1 and 2 are factual documentaries and Fisher-Price games have become the world religion, Kid Carpet is Mozart.

He takes those plastic kiddies' instruments - rinky-dink Casio keyboards and toy Bontempi electric guitars with cheesy autoaccompaniment sounds and garishly flashing LEDs - and plays them with the wild-eyed conviction of Eighties' hair rockers at the height of their pomp.

His talent and enthusiasm bubbles over on his debut album, Ideas & Oh Dears, which includes his kiddie disco remix of Van Halen's Jump and the dirty rhymes of Your Love, just two moments which brought grins to the faces of the audience.

With the addition of a sampler, from which he triggered funky hip-hop loops, a shambolic but energetic stage presence and lyrics full of knowing but never ironic humour, he often approached lo-fi genius.

This 30-something child prodigy has to be seen.
