Promoters Aerosolics have chosen Brighton as the place to launch their first-ever music and art festival.

The night aims to give a taster of what's to come at the Aerosolics Festival in June.

On the bill are Rodney P & The Sea, Skitz, Phi-Life Cypher, Deadly Hunta, Dopewax & Itch, JPB and Crafty Raskel, playing UK hip-hop and reggae.

Graffiti artists will be doing their thing with spray cans and there will also be an art exhibition.

From working with the London Posse in the mid-Eighties to his status today as a record label owner and radio presenter, Rodney P is a grandmaster of the music industry.

In the early days, he was supporting Mick Jones of The Clash and his band Big Audio Dynamite, as well as working with filmmaker and DJ Don Letts.

It was these foundations which led Rodney P to his current position as an ambassador of UK hip-hop.

Producer and DJ SKitz has worked with some of London's best-known hip-hop MCs, such as MC D, Black Twang and Rodney P. He says of his influences: "My foundation is reggae music, from the bass line. I've always loved ragga. I was into The Clash, Aswad, Lee Perry, Agustus Pablo. That's the bass.

"The drums from hip-hop and then I just sample whatever on top."

UK hip-hop luminaries Phi-Life Cypher started making music in 1996 and after making it to the final of Tim Westwood's Talent 2000 contest they were projected into the upper realms of the UK scene. They comprise two MCs, Si-Philli and Life, and DJ Nappa.

Taking place in Surrey, from June 30 to July 2, Aerosolics aims to fuse visual and acoustic art together. Combining indie rock, reggae, hip-hop, gipsy beats, electro, dizzy beats, drum 'n' bass, ska and rock 'n' roll, the line-up includes The Bays, Gogol Bordello and The Departure. www.aerosolics.com 9pm-late, £10, call 01273 699069
