The last time Abigail Thaw was at Chichester Festival Theatre she was there with her father, John Thaw, to support her stepmother Sheila Hancock. Now she's appearing herself in the opening play of the 2006 Chichester Festival.

A new, sharp-edged comedy by Richard Everett, Entertaining Angels stars Penelope Keith as a clergy wife who has spent a lifetime on best behaviour.

Now, following the death of her husband, she is enjoying the newfound freedom to do and say exactly as she pleases. But the return of her eccentric missionary sister Ruth and psychotherapist daughter Jo (Thaw) forces her to confront the truth behind her marriage.

"It's about the uncovering of what took place within the family in the past and how all the different members deal with that - from the clergy, psychotherapist and missionary point of view," explains Thaw.

"It's a lovely piece, very funny and warm. But it's also about all the big things in life. I hope people will go away thinking a great deal about love, life and the universe."

Starts at 7.30pm, various mats 2pm. Tickets cost £10-£32, call 01243 781312.
