Little Abbie Livingstone-Nurse, who died in a tragic beach accident, was remembered by her mum Pippa when she married her partner of two years.

Three-year-old Abbie died on a Cornish beach last summer when she jumped into a 5ft deep sand hole dug by her stepbrother.

The sides of the hole collapsed and the youngster was buried under piles of sand.

Despite a desperate attempt to dig her from the sand on packed Hayle beach on August 14, Abbie suffocated to death.

Her distraught mother Pippa, of Goring, Worthing, her partner Ian Sayer, his son Dominic, 14, and Pippa's oldest child Joe, five, watched helplessly.

Abbie's funeral was held at St Mary's Church, Goring - a short distance from the family home.

Pippa and Ian, who is a teacher, tied the knot at the same church.

To celebrate Abbie's memory the couple had no bridesmaids or flower girls to witness them exchange their vows.

The couple made the decision because they felt no one could take the place of the lively youngster who had been so excited at the idea of being a bridesmaid for her mum.

At the wedding, Pippa, 34, carried a bouquet of cream roses with one single pink bloom placed in the heart of the arrangement.

Ian often took home a single rose to Pippa.

Abbie would answer the door when he arrived home and would carry the rose to her mum.

Mourners at the funeral heard that Abbie was an "enchanting child" and "beautiful girl" who "made this troubled world a wonderful place to be".

The inquest into Abbie's death recorded a verdict of accidental death, concluding that she died as a result of asphyxiation after she was buried in the sand.
