How many North London Jewish scratch DJs who play George Formby can you name?

DJ Yoda, one of the UK's biggest hip-hop mix tape and club DJs, has certainly found his unique-selling-point.

"I'm a hip-hop DJ but I'll play anything that inspires me," says Yoda, aka Duncan Beiny.

The DJ mixes he's released on his own Antidote label prove his work is about having a laugh, as well as showing off technical wizardry.

"I always keep a sense of humour. It's quite selfish really because it's purely for my own enjoyment," says the man who's written an alternative soundtrack to The Goonies, as well as Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

It's a joke the hip-hop underground have been quick to get. His previous How To Cut And Paste and the Unthugged collaboration with Dan Greenpeace included cut-ups of the A-Team theme tune and even Emmerdale, overlaid with gangsta rap samples.

The latest instalment of Cut And Paste The Eighties Edition begins on familiar ground with The Message but soon Betty Boo, Rick Astley and even The Final Countdown make appearances in scratched-up excerpts.

"I'm just being honest because everyone of our generation grew up on this music. If you go around pretending you were only listening to late Seventies rap in your youth, then you're not being true to yourself."
