Matt Prior boosted Sussex with his 11th hundred for the county yesterday and declared: "That has to be my best yet."

In his first Championship appearance of the season, the 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman made 124 before he was last out as Sussex made 301 replying to Yorkshire's 272. Yorkshire then slumped to 3-2 in their second innings.

Prior believes his experiences in India and Pakistan, where he played 11 one-day internationals during the winter, have made him a better player and matured him as a person.

He said: "It's easy to say that you have changed but it is so nice to perform when you think you have got better as a cricketer and as a person. That was probably my best hundred for Sussex.

"The winter with England taught me a lot and it's come to fruition so early in the season for me.

"Jason Gillespie and Matthew Hoggard are a quality act but playing against them is the sort of challenge I was looking forward to because you are only going to get better if you test yourself and perform against the best.

"It was a great innings personally and also for the team. We got ourselves a first innings lead which could be important because the pitch isn't going to get easier to bat on and then got a couple of wickets at the end."
