The ever-enterprising Oxford Stage Company are attempting the impossible - a multi-art form stage adaptation which condenses John Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost into two hours of thrilling and spectacular theatre.
Original music, contemporary choreography, flying and video projection give a modern take on the oldest story in the world. Paradise Lost portrays an extraordinary, theatrical vision of the Fall of Mankind and is considered to be Milton's masterpiece.
Milton originally wrote Paradise Lost as a drama, and it was considered a classic as soon as it was published in 1667. At the time of writing, Milton was completely blind.
Ben Power's adaptation begins in the same way as the 12-volume poem, with Satan's banishment from heaven, and follows Satan's journey through the cosmos in search of Earth.
Collaborators on this ambitious project include choreographer Liam Steel (DV8), video designer Lorna Heavey (Complicite) and award-winning designer Ben Stones.
