To make a change from my complaints about the King Alfred plans, I write to give the highest praise to the staff of the Regency Digestive Diseases Centre of the Royal Sussex County Hospital who are caring for my brother, Bob Fines of Woodingdean.

Bob has just had a major, four-hour operation and the skill of surgeon Dr Lamar and his team is evident in the remarkable recovery he is making.

This was obvious only 24 hours afterwards. As for the nurses and support staff, Bob thinks they are just wonderful. As a visitor I have experienced their courtesy and help for myself.

This praise is, of course, also given on behalf of Bob, his beloved wife Daphne and all his loyal family and friends. It is such a joy for us to see him so cheerful so soon.

When one witnesses the amazing surgical and medical advances and the far greater number who survive such operations, it is no wonder the NHS needs more funding. What it doesn't need is constant criticism.
