In response to Ms's letter "Colour code" (April 29), may I suggest prejudice is a fact of life and works both ways, as I have experienced many times.

What annoys me more than anything is rude and anti-social behaviour by all cultures and the absolute refusal to adopt our culture of "queueing", which I notice is particularly prevalent among certain peoples, although by no means all.

Some of the gentlemen are the first to let you board a bus, for example.

I am newly retired, in my early 60s and, very obviously, arthritic.

But one shouldn't ever generalise, because a few years ago, when I resided in London, I fell down some supermarket steps and an African gentleman picked me up. An ambulance was called from inside the premises and a seat was brought out in the meantime for my use.

As a country, all things considered, I think our multi-cultural society is fantastic. But there are always some people who, for some reason, utter the most crass statements one has ever heard, especially if they are MPs.

Finally, may I say I particularly like Brighton for its liberal views and attitudes.

I notice we have a lot of people from mainland Europe in the city and they all speak excellent English, something our education system should study closely.
