Dominic Holland has spent much of the the 21st Century wisecracking at us from a plethora of television panel shows of varying quality.

So it has come as a surprise - some might even say a relief - that you don't seem to see him around much these days.

Holland - like Phill Jupitus and Bill Bailey - is one of those comedians who has never really had the credit he deserves for his live show because of his over-exposure on largely unfunny television.

Perhaps wisely he has withdrawn recently to concentrate on a new novel and the four children who are a staple of his material.

But cast aside Holland's television persona and what you have is one of the funniest stand-up comedians around.

There are no gimmicks - he doesn't drink goat's blood, electrocute himself or try to produce fire through his nipples (everyday events in the Spiegeltent).

Holland is simply an old-fashioned, observational comic with a gift for getting his audiences rolling in the aisles with the most mundane subject matter.
