In Charles Whitney's article "Independent traders 'must be protected'" (The Argus, May 12), I was surprised he never mentioned the small Tesco and Sainsbury's cornertype shops which often pop up in petrol stations and sometimes on their own.

Maybe there should be a law against these as they double the impact supermarkets have on smaller shops.

Maybe some advertising campaigns on using smaller shops would help too, like maybe one or two billboards encouraging people to keep the little shops going.
