Plans for up to 2,000 new homes in a small town have been unveiled by developers.

Pelham Homes is seeking permission from Wealden District Council to build the new housing in Polegate.

The scheme also includes plans for primary and secondary schools, and comes amid Government demands for more homes in the South-East.

The South East Regional Assembly wants more than 28,000 homes built in the region during the next 20 years.

About 1,300 of these are earmarked for East Sussex.

Also included in the housing scheme are shops, community facilities including open space and sports pitches, and a train station.
