In the article "Saving our history or bottling the city in aspic" (The Argus July 15) I have been quoted as saying that the Regency Society is ineffectual.

In fact what I said was that the Brighton Society was formed in 1973 as, at that time, the Regency Society seemed to be an ineffectual organisation.

The Regency Society is a completely different society today, with John Small as its much respected Honorary Secretary, Michael Ray as its recently-appointed knowledgeable chairman, supported by a talented committee.

I would not have rejoined the committee of the Regency Society last year if I did not believe it to be a dynamic and effective group.
