Seeing Powell and Pressburger's film A Canterbury Tale, starring Eric Portman, on television recently took me back to Egypt in 1948 where, as a very young man, I was serving in the RAF.
Eric Portman, together with actor Laurence Harvey, visited the YMCA in Ismalia.
They were there to discuss a new film they were about to make called The Cairo Road and were very friendly.
At the time, I recalled particularly the earlier film A Canterbury Tale, as my father also appeared in it.
