Midnight Communications has laid claim to being one of the most environmentally friendly public relations agencies in the country.

The company, based in Foundry Street, Brighton, said it had expanded its green policy, formulated in 2002, to cover all aspects of office management.

It now only uses 100 per cent recycled office paper and sources all other office materials from companies with sustainable production methods. The 25-strong company uses special "save a flush" bags which are inserted in toilet cisterns and save a litre of water every time the loo is flushed.

Office hand soap and washing-up liquid are ecofriendly and hand towels, bin bags - and even the loo rolls - are made from recycled fibres.

Sarah Ogden, director at Midnight, said: "Midnight staff all recognise the importance of adopting new methods to support the environmental policy.

"Putting these measures in place was simple and the benefits are great.

"It is essential these initiatives are at the heart of the company and embrace everything from supplier relationships to loo roll."

The company also bans unnecessary flights and has implemented a carshare and bike-loan scheme for staff.

Midnight performs an annual carbon audit to reduce the amount of harmful emissions generated by its day-to-day operations.

Midnight tries to work with clients who have ethical or sustainable business practices.

This year it helped launch TucTuc in Brighton, promoted Farmers Weekly's food miles campaign and promoted sustainable house buildings for the Grand Designs Live show in London.
