Parks are shaping up for the future with a Los Angeles-style makeover.

Flourescent lycra is recommended if you want to get spotted at the new celeb style outdoor gyms cropping up across Brighton and Hove.

Hove Park and Vale Park in Portslade have both had the facelift and now sport flash new fitness equipment anyone can use for free.

If conventional gym membership is crippling your bank balance you can swap the air conditioning for real fresh air and use the outdoor chest presses, pull-up stations and air skiers instead.

The outdoor gyms have been funded by Brighton and Hove City Council and cost around £25,000 each.

The list of exhausting equipment includes chest and leg presses, pull-down challenges, sit-up benches, air skiers, cross trainers, pull-up stations, push-and-pull stations, leg lifts and double air walkers. Phew.

Pumping iron in the park can also be combined with bouldering, where you scramble over a giant artificial rock, and playing sports in numerous courts if you go to Hove Park in Old Shoreham Road.

If you’re not a regular gym bunny the equipment comes with information signs to show you how to use it.

The facilities are designed to offer a range of cardiovascular, weight-loss and core stability exercises for different body types and levels of fitness.
