Travellers have set up camp in two places in the city after the closure of the area's dedicated traveller park.

Brighton and Hove City Council has said it is working as quickly as possible to reopen the facility at Horsdean but blamed contractors for taking too long.

A travelling community of about 25 caravans set up camp in East Brighton Park for the fourth time in 12 months on Saturday.

It is believed to be the same community that was evicted recently from Black Rock.

Another group has also set up camp on land just off the top of Ditchling Road.

Brighton and Hove City Council said it was working with the police to remove the travellers from East Brighton Park and that it already had a possession order for the Ditchling Road site.

Bailiffs are expected to recover the area by the middle of next week.

The council's Horsdean travellers site was closed in December 2009 after it was vandalised.
