I see that Brighton Marathon’s course extends to the western end of Hove lagoon.
As we are now part of the city of Brighton and Hove, surely the race should now be named the Brighton and Hove Marathon.
Should we not also have the Brighton and Hove Festival? Also consider the Hove Greyhound Stadium, now referred to as Brighton and Hove Stadium, when it used to be “Hove Dogs” on sports reports. I recently heard the phrase “Brighton Dogs” on a TV sports report.
How often do we see TV reports filmed in Hove but spoken of as Brighton? Sussex County Cricket Ground is a one-off, still being called the Hove Ground.
Hove is obviously looked upon as merely a district of Brighton – of no importance. This view goes all the way back to Victorian times.
