Firefighters are tackling a blaze at a waste recycling centre which was closed briefly last year after it was destroyed by fire.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to the centre in Wilson Avenue, Whitehawk, Brighton, at 7.01pm today, after two general waste containers were reported to be on fire.

A crew from Roedean fire station is tackling the blaze with hose reel jets and a hydrant.

The fire is believed to have started accidentally.

In July last year, the recycling plant was closed after a blaze broke out and engulfed the main building.

Smoke from the site, which is run by Veolia on behalf of Brighton and Hove City Council, could be seen from miles away as the fire took hold.
