If you fancy a coach trip down the Rhine to Heidelberg, then Eastbourne is the place to start this week. And you will have an hilarious journey, thanks to the Hull Truck Theatre Company. But beware, your companions will be a load of crinklies.
Frank, Stick and Happy Larry (Sarah Parks, Robert Angell and Dicken Ashworth) are your drivers as they tell of the problems looking after this elderly group. Throughout the trip they effortlessly switch roles to portray their customers, such as three miners from Doncaster (the Marx Brothers) and three sisters from Beverley and many others.
All three are superb in changing roles, keeping the audience in fits of laughter in the process. Inevitably you may wonder why the oldies want to go on such a journey, health and other problems being what they are. And there is always the question, how many will make it home?
But that is the touch of pathos that makes this John Godber play such an excellent comedy. So sit back and enjoy the trip, but don’t sit over the wheel, one leg might end up longer than the other.
