Anyone who thinks socialism is going to deliver prosperity to his front door is living in cloud cuckoo land.

On a world basis it only produces bankruptcy. The Soviets were bent on making a success of their socialism and their slogan was “From each according to his ability; to each according to his needs.”

The problem was those with the ability were a trickle and those with the needs were an uncontrollable stampede. In 1990 their system could no longer take it and together with their 13 neighbouring satellite socialist countries the whole lot went bankrupt.

Those 14 countries are still well behind and will take decades to equal the West. We in Europe have something like a 5,000-year history. The early settlers to the US some 300 years ago took over a country that did not have a road or a building and by sheer hard work, in those 300 years they have left the rest of the world standing. To them socialism means obscenity and still does.

Those people who blame the rich people in our country for our misfortunes should bear in mind that 90% of our rich come from the working class (union leaders on £200,000 a year). We have plenty of talent but it is suppressed by massive socialist handouts.

Our unwritten slogan is “Why work when you don’t have to?”

There is no secret in becoming rich. If you do a week’s work, you are paid a week’s wages. If for a period in your life you do two weeks’ work in a week, you will become rich. The choice is yours.

At school I had cardboard over the holes in my one pair of shoes. I chose to do the hours and get rich. It worked.
