Sussex will be looking to force home their advantage over Surrey tomorrow after fine innings from Luke Wright and Murray Goodwin saw them build a lead of 73 with three wickets to spare at the end of the second day.
Rana Naved gave Sussex the perfect start by taking wickets with the first two balls of the day as Surrey added only six runs to their overnight 199-7.
Sussex then found it tough going with the bat as they lost Chris Nash and Joe Gatting to limp to lunch on 29-2.
Goodwin then handed them the iniative with a fine 74 as he shared in a partnership of 117 with skipper Mike Yardy whose 68 took him 187 balls.
Wright kept Sussex in the driving seat with a brisk 68 before Surrey fought back with the new ball as Jade Dernbach bowled Andrew Hodd and Michael Thornely late on.
