UPDATE: The uncle of an 18-month-old girl killed by a vicious dog has been released on bail.

Urfan Ahmed, 32, of Cotton Walk, Crawley, was arrested yesterday after his niece died from severe facial injuries caused by a dog attack at their home.

Sussex Police said Mr Ahmed has been released on police bail pendign further enquiries.

A spokeswoman said: "A 32-year-old man from Crawley has been released on police bail pending further enquiries until 15 July following his arrest yesterday on suspicion of manslaughter.

"The arrest followed an incident in Cotton Walk, Broadfield, in which an 18-month-old baby girl was killed by a dog.

"A post mortem has been carried out on the little girl and the results will be released tomorrow, after family have been informed.

"A formal identification is also expected to take place, following which the identification of the victim will be released."
