A man has been charged following a five-hour police siege in Whitehawk, Brighton.
Glenn Puddick, 36, was due to appear at Brighton Magistrates' Court this morning accused of assaulting a woman and affray.
Police were called to Haybourne Road just after 1.30am on Sunday after a report of an assault.
Firearms officers were called and police spent five hours trying to persuade a man inside to release a seven-year-old boy, five-year-old girl and 15-month-old baby.
A 27-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital suffering from injuries to her face.
No shots were fired in the police operation.
