An investigation has been launched following the death of a man at a mental health hospital.

The man was found in the toilets in a public area of Millview Hospital in Hove over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The 35-year-old was known to workers at the Sussex Partnership NHS Trust, which runs the hospital.

His body was discovered by staff.

The cause of the man’s death is not yet been revealed.

It is the sixth death at hospitals run by the trust in the last two years.

The trust is now looking into the circumstances surrounding the latest incident and police and the Brighton and Hove coroner have been informed.

Three patients killed themselves while in the care of the Woodlands unit in Hastings, prompting Sussex Police to launch an investigation.

The unit was closed after police sergeant Richard Bexhell, 49, John Blair, 40, and Suzanna Anley, 35, took their own lives.

Another patient, Michael Stevens, killed himself at the Meadowfield Hospital in Worthing.

A 27-year-old Brighton's man's death at Millview on March 9 this year is also being investigated.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “On behalf of the coroner, Sussex Police is making an initial review of the circumstances of the death of a 35-year-old man reported at Millview Hospital in Hove at 7.45pm on Sunday May 2.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.”

A spokesman for the Sussex Partnership confirmed the death.

He said: “We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
