I just want to say thank you to the kind gentlemen who picked me up after I feel down the steps at Churchill Square into Cranbourne Street. They called an ambulance and sat with me until it came.

I was so shaken up I didn’t get the men’s names.

I was taken to A&E at the Royal Sussex County Hospital and the staff there were also brilliant.

For years now, I have noticed all sorts of lethal devices being used along Dyke Road, Shirley Drive, Woodland Avenue, etc. to stop cars parking on the verge of the road.

Whilst we can, of course, understand the frustration of local residents, is it really worth risking someone’s life by remaining complacent about such ill-conceived solutions to this problem?

Whether it is a cyclist losing his balance, a pedestrian tripping over or even a child running on the pavement, they all risk the possibility of cracking their head open on a large rock or impaling themselves on a stick protruding out of the ground.

In the past I tried to draw the attention of Brighton and Hove City Council to this danger. Surely, there should be strict regulations as to the shape and size of devices being used for such purpose?

And in the event of a tragedy, who would be responsible? The resident for installing the device in the first place or the council for turning a blind eye to it?

Freak accidents do happen, but they are not always unavoidable.
