The first in two special nights celebrating the work of revered composer Philip Glass, his 1974 breakthrough Music In 12 Parts is the piece said to be the crystallisation of all Glass’s previous ideas and achievements.
Described as part “deeply engrossing work of art” and part “theoretical exercise”, it remains the longest and most ambitious work the American composer has written for his own ensemble and is revived in a rare live performance here by Glass himself, leading his ensemble in a four-hour performance.
On Thursday, Glass and his ensemble perform the live score for Koyaanisqatsi, his groundbreaking collaboration with Godfrey Reggio, to a screening of the cult 1982 film.
