With reference to Rick Webber’s letter (Letters, May 4), what he does not point out is that the loss of parking spaces is because Brighton and Hove City Council will be enforcing the car parking laws as referred to in the Highway Code. You are not allowed to park within 15ft of a corner.

The reason for this law is so pedestrians can use pavements without inconvenience and everyone can use junctions with the safety of clear visibility.

At the moment Franklin Road is often difficult to use because cars are parked illegally on corners. It can be difficult to cross adjoining roads without either going out into the main road or into the side road so far you have no chance of seeing approaching traffic.

I find it more of a problem when I am carring shopping. Parents with children and prams are at more risk. I have seen a woman with a pram have to backtrack to find a gap onto the main road and then approach the now-blind junction. There is no loss of legal parking spaces.

For the increased safety and access for those who walk, the consultation has my yes vote.
