A man who sexually assaulted a pensioner has been sent to a secure hospital indefinitely.

Modu Cham, 22, is such a danger to the public that he will not be released unless doctors consider it is safe for him to free.

Cham, a paranoid schizophrenic, sexually assaulted the 85-year-old victim twice in 2008.

A judge ruled that Cham was not fit to stand trial earlier this year because of his mental condition.

He was formally found guilty of two charges of sexual assault after a jury heard the evidence against him earlier this year.

Judge Anthony Niblett issued a hospital order under the Mental Health Act during a hearing at Hove Crown Court yesterday.

After hearing medical evidence he also directed that Cham should be detained indefinitely because of the danger he poses to the public.

Cham, of Walsingham Road, Hove, will be treated for his condition at Ashen Hill, a medium secure mental health unit at Hellingly, near Hailsham, until further order.
