After years of controversy, a planning application has finally been submitted for a new £17.5 million seafront swimming pool.
Architects Wilkinson Eyre presented the plans to Worthing Borough Council which will probably consider the controversial scheme in September.
The new complex is earmarked for the children's paddling pool and Peter Pan's playground next to the ageing Aquarena in Brighton Road.
The existing 33m pool would be replaced by a six lane 25m pool, learner/diving pool, indoor leisure pool, outdoor waters, a health and fitness centre, cafe and studio space.
The number of parking spaces would be similar to what is currently provided at the Aquarena.
Borough council leader Paul Yallop said: “This is a positive step towards Worthing getting a new pool.“
